The incumbent will perform a variety of duties supporting the Special Projects function within the Supplier Quality Department. Specific duties may include the following: coordinate and lead efforts to analyze, understand, disposition, resolve, and prevent future recurrence of supplier-related material non-conformances; drive implementation of quality programs and process improvements at targeted suppliers to decrease deficient material problems downstream; initiate/validate supplier corrective/preventive actions; coordinate the Pervasive Commodity supplier program; interface with Customer, Government and senior shipyard management regarding supplier-related issues as required. Individual should possess a working knowledge of shipyard operations, manufacturing methods and facilities. Working experience in a manufacturing environment is desired. Must be able to accomplish objectives successfully with little/no supervision. Project management/leadership experience is desired. Proficiency with computer programs such as SAP and Excel are desired. Excellent communication, technical writing, and customer relations skills are essential. Up to 10% of work time involves travel. Must be able to obtain DoD security clearance. General Template Job Description:Researches, plans, designs and develops mechanical products and systems such as instruments, controls, robots, engines, machines and mechanical, thermal hydraulic or heat transfer systems for production, transmission, measurement, and use of energy. Applies research to the planning, design, development, and testing of mechanical and/or electromechanical systems, instruments, controls, engines, and/or machines.

Basic Qualifications5 Years with Bachelors in Science; 3 Years with Masters; 0 Years with PhD.- Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.

Preferred Qualifications Working knowledge of shipyard operations, manufacturing methods, and facilities. Working experience in a manufacturing environment. Project management/leadership experience. Excellent communication, technical writing, and customer relations skills. Mechanical or Electrical Engineer preferred.
