Job Description

Would you like to be part of a high level engineering team supporting the collaboration requirements for large network enterprises for the US Navy and US Air Force? Would you like to dramatically increase your skills and knowledge as a professional, working with a very senior team employing advanced designs and solutions? The Network Engineer in this position will be providing network engineering and architecture support to a dedicated enterprise Navy and Air Force operational and training network. Responsible for design, development, documentation, testing, troubleshooting, and implementation of network voice and video technologies, capabilities, and solutions that are integrated into a globally distributed enterprise network. This position will report to the Network Division Lead, working under a Senior Network Engineer as the team lead.

Essential Job Responsibilities

The Network Engineer will be a member of a network engineering and operations team supporting an enterprise Navy training network distributed globally hundreds of shore-based sites and 120+ ships. Additionally, the network engineer will be supporting large and brand new Air Force enterprises. The engineer will be responsible for assigned project tasking for the research, design, and implementation of voice and video network solutions into the architecture of an enterprise network. In conjunction with other Engineering divisions, he/she will support the full lifecycle of network engineering solutions for VoIP and VTC communications between and among shore sites and ships. The engineer shall develop supporting documentation on network, voice, and VTC architectures and capabilities including requirements documentation, architecture drawings, information assurance documentation, test plans/results, configuration change documentation, implementation procedures, and operational validation procedures. The design will require extensive collaboration with DoD commands and agencies and extensive knowledge of security technical guides and best practices to maintain and enhance the information assurance posture of the enterprise network.

Minimum Qualifications

2 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 0 years experience with Masters in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 6 years relevant experience.
  • In some cases, educational requirements may be adjusted for more than 4 years applicable work experience. Work experience may be adjusted for highly specialized knowledge or uniquely applicable experience.
  • 2-4+ years of demonstrated experience in network design, architecture, and engineering.
  • 2-4+ years of demonstrated experience in Cisco Unified Communications Manager administration and sustainment.
  • 2-4+ years of demonstrated experience in H.323 VTC environments including endpoints, Gatekeepers, Gateways, and Conferencing
  • CCNA Collaboration Certification required.
  • Security+ Certification required
  • Must be willing to travel CONUS and OCONUS.

Preferred Requirements

  • CCNP Certification desired.
  • In-depth knowledge of VoIP and VTC architecture, design, and protocols including H.323, SIP, RAS, SCCP, H323, as well as VoSIP.
  • In-depth knowledge of LAN and WAN networking design, equipment, and transport topologies including GRE, Fiber Optics, VLANs, Ether channel, and IPv4 subneting.
  • In-depth knowledge of IP networking fundamentals including OSI model, frame and packet structure.
  • Experience in supporting engineering, development, and deployment of VoIP and VTC designs and architectures, as well as installation.
  • Experience with Department of Defense Security Technical Implementation Guidelines.
  • Familiarity in network security and its tools including but not limited to NAC, 802,1x, port-security, firewalls, IDS/IPS.
  • Familiarity with network and performance monitoring tools (like Solarwinds, HP NA, Cisco IP SLA, PRTG).
  • Familiarity with Call Routing /Translation Pattern /Route Pattern, Device pools, Regions, Calling Search Space, Partitions, SIP Trunks, and Inter Cluster Trunks.
  • Be able to troubleshoot using status messages on VoIP phone and verify network switch configuration for VoIP connectivity.
  • Be able to configure and verify Cisco IP VoIP Phones IP assignment by means of DHCP and Static assignment

Physical Requirements

May require working in an office, industrial, shipboard, or laboratory environment. Capable of climbing ladders and tolerating confined spaces and extreme temperature variances.
