The Boeing Company is looking for an Associate Instrumentation and Control Engineer with a strong background on transducers, closed-loop control, data acquisition systems, and MATLAB to join our team in Seattle, WA or Everett, WA. This role will support testing in the Structures Lab. Boeing Test & Evaluation is constantly finding faster and more innovative and affordable ways to ensure Boeing products meet the highest levels of quality, reliability and safety. At B&TE, we innovate, design, test and validate a large variety of commercial and military products. Our team is focused on safely providing the highest value instrumentation solutions to address challenges that we face during testing. Our team instruments full scale airplane systems with various sensors and uses advanced control and data acquisition systems to conduct structural ground testing and acquire data for analysis.

This position is for 1st shift; however, various shifts, nights, weekends, and alternate shifts may be required to support program objectives.

Position Responsibilities:
  • Assists in demonstrating the effectiveness of test methods
  • Develops simple test procedures, and instrumentation and configuration definition needed to perform the test and minimize risk
  • Designs component and sub-assembly level hardware or software and uses analytical tools to verify the design
  • Assists in coordinating the manufacture and assembly of test hardware
  • Identifies solutions to basic problems and supports the development of metrology processes, methods, and tools
  • Supports development of test debrief material
  • Participates in evaluation of test performance data
  • Reviews test data for accuracy, quality and/or fidelity prior to delivery to customer
  • Alerts senior engineers of off-nominal data
  • Prepares test reports for review
  • Works under general supervision
  • Works with a variety of sensors or transducers: strain gages, load cells, pressure transducers, and thermocouples
  • Works with and operates data acquisition systems
  • Reads technical drawings
  • Collects and analyzes data
  • Works with Microsoft Windows, Office, and MATLAB

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

The position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a "US Person" as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. "US Person" includes , lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
  • Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry
  • 1+ years of experience working with Digital Volt Meters (DVM), Oscilloscopes, AC/DC Power supplies, Frequency Generators, and Power Meters
  • 1+ years of experience in MATLAB
  • Experience with electrical circuitry

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
  • Experience in wiring diagram and PCB board creation
  • Experience with LabVIEW programming, C, and PLC
  • Experience in seeing and understand the inter-relationships between components of systems and plans, anticipate future events, and apply the principles of systems thinking to accelerate performance
  • Experience with sensors, strain gages, load cells, and data acquisition systems
  • Experience with PID closed loop control systems

Typical Education/Experience:

Bachelor's degree and typically 2 or more years' experience in an engineering classification or a Master's degree with experience in an engineering classification.

Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
