Build Engineer (Remote)

Our client has a brand-new opportunity for a remote Build Engineer to join their team. This Build Engineer will help our client manage their engineering system, which produces images they install on their products. Each day the team spins multiple software builds, across their product branches. These builds include firmware, application, and customer-facing images. A successful candidate has experience using build systems, managing those systems, working with consumer-electronic devices, and Azure DevOps. This candidate can be in either the Silicon Valley area or Redmond, WA, but must sit in the Pacific Standard Timezone. Responsibilities and Scope:

• Kick off, manage, and monitor our daily software builds, using Azure Pipelines
• Ensure builds succeed, or restart as needed
• File bugs when builds fail, ensure builds are passing, pulling in experts (developers) as needed
• Install Android images on devices, perform basic sanity test to ensure no regressions (no device-debugging is required in this role
  • The sanity test portion is really focused on whether devices boot or not)
• Hand-off successful builds to the QA teams
• Coordinate weekly software build needs, as required by the product leads

• Previous Azure DevOps experience
• Using and occasionally modifying software-build systems (scripting)
• Knowledge of Azure pipelines and pipelines interface, and troubleshooting of pipelines
• Experience in an engineering setting with consumer electronic devices like phones, laptops, PCs, etc.
• Git, code branches, experience with the difference between release and main branches
• Experience with scripting, with a heavy preference on Python
• Working knowledge of both Windows and Linux environments
  • Ubuntu or Windows-Subsystem for Linux (WSL)

• Knowledge of Azure Pipeline YAML, and Azure Artifacts
• Experience shipping a consumer
• Electronic device in the Builder role
