The Cheney Fire Department is recruiting for one (1) immediate Lateral Career Firefighter/EMT-B opening. Estimated starting date for this position is October 15, 2025.
Cheney is a thriving community with a population of 13,160 and is located just 17 miles southwest of Spokane. The Cheney Fire Department is established with a mission statement of “Make a Difference” through “Community Focused Dedication”. Cheney Fire is the first fire department in Spokane County, established in 1883. The department is a combination all-hazard department that has tremendous pride in providing an exceptional level of service to our citizens. The department is seeing record-breaking call volumes and is positioned for significant growth in the coming years. The Cheney Fire Department also provides Fire and EMS services to Eastern Washington University. We participate in mutual and auto aid to the rest of Spokane County and the adjoining region.

Interviews will be held on Thursday, September 11, 20025. The top candidates will advance to the Chief's Interview on Friday, September 12, 2025. Candidates will be notified about their interview times. Failure to arrive on time will result in not being allowed to interview for the position. We do not allow phone or Zoom interviews. Failure to arrive in person will be considered a withdrawal from this process.
