Accountable To: Health/Nutrition Program Manager & St. James Site Supervisor

Objective:

Under the supervision of the Health/Nutrition Program Manager & St. James Site Supervisor, the Cook is responsible for guaranteeing that children are served nutritious, good-tasting, and appealing meals and snacks in a manner that maintains high nutrient levels required by the program and sanitary kitchen conditions.

High positive regard for staff, parents, and children will be demonstrated.

Required Qualifications:

Must successfully pass a background check as required by CCCC.

Must have a current TB test.

Must have reliable transportation

Food handler’s certificate.

Ability to lift 50 pounds.

Ability to go up and down the stairs to bring food down.

Ability to read and write English.

Accurate math skills.

Excellent organizational skills, time management skills, and the ability to work unsupervised.

Know and understand all requirements and regulations concerning the nutrition programs and CCCC policies.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in volume cooking.

Duties include but are not limited to:

Plan, prepare, and cook meals and snacks in accordance with the posted menus/recipes.

Plan for and purchase food and supplies necessary to prepare planned menus for a number of enrolled children and program staff members.

Submit/receive orders from vendors.

Plan for, prepare, and ensure that all special dietary needs of children are met and accommodated.

Maintain standards of sanitation, safety, food preparation, and storage/rotation of food as set by the health department.

Delivers food from kitchen to classrooms/pick up all dishes from classrooms after scheduled mealtimes are over using the stairs.

Complete dishes from the cooking and serving process.

Maintain communication with supervisors.

Maintain an accurate record-keeping system that follows USDA guidelines and accounts for food purchases.

Participates in all-agency staff meetings/trainings.

Participates in all emergency drills/activities.

Participates in on-going training opportunities.

Removal of garbage from the kitchen daily.

Performs other duties as assigned.
