Ability to obtain a valid Washington State teaching certificate appropriate for grade level and/or subject prior to the beginning of the contract year

Meet ESEA Highly Qualified requirements

Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher learning

Ability to work cooperatively with students and their parents who are culturally, racially, and linguistically diverse

Like native speaking and listening fluency and reading and writing literacy in Spanish

Advanced level proficiency in ACTFL written and oral assessments

Familiarity or willingness to acquire knowledge of language immersion models and curriculum

Ability to collaborate in the development, articulation, implementation, and stewardship of a Spanish language and culture middle school program

Comfortable working in a collaborative environment in a program focused on improving student learning.

Ability to create and modify curriculum and materials designed for use in other contexts

Experienced or at ease in taking leadership to advocate for students in program viability and fidelity

Represents the best interests of the school

Cooperates as a professional team member and accepts faculty responsibilities.

Continued professional improvement

Sets an example for students in emotional stability, self-control, courtesy, and appearance

Advanced ability to use technology as an effective communication, planning and instructional tool

Ability to work in a semi-open or self-contained classroom

Knowledge of, or experience with, multicultural education

Knowledge of, or experience with, a variety of teaching strategies, i.e. cooperative learning, integrated curriculum, whole language, etc.

Program commitment for continuity and improvement

Willingness to participate in staff development courses aligned with the school and district initiatives

Essential Functions:

Provides an instructional program bilingually for students geared to meet their individual needs at their instructional level

Handles discipline in a positive manner

Works and plans cooperatively and collaboratively

Moves comfortably in a diverse community and with cultural competency.

Teaches multiple middle school subjects with a high degree of skill

Teaches secondary content in Spanish, integrates the teaching of content area vocabulary, and teaches students to use the language correctly through content

Actively engages students in using technology in individual and collaborative learning activites

Works in a flexible and cooperative manner

Treats co-workers, supervisors, students, parents and others with dignity and respect at all times

Serves as a positive role model for students, and practices the behaviors that are expected of our students

Maintains regular and punctual attendance and hours of operation as set by the assigned building/location and the Comprehensive Professional Agreement to carry out the duties and responsibilities of the position to achieve program requirements

Salary range: $60,681 - $114,376 (includes Base & TRI enrichment; commensurate upon FTE, degree, credits and experience). Salary schedules can be accessed here (https://vansd.org/salary-schedules/) .

Additional Compensation: Certificated positions may have additional pay provisions above what is represented on the salary range such as, but not limited to TRI professional learning, extended year days, extra appendix E supplemental days and professional development reimbursement. Time Off: Includes paid time off, sick, personal, religious, military and bereavement leave.

Sick Leave: 8 hours per month (part-time employee accrual will be proportionate to their FTE).
