The Communications and Sensing Technology organization with BR&T is seeking an Embedded Firmware and Circuit Designer (Level 4) to support communication and RF sensor designs. The ideal candidate should be able to develop digital communication and signal processing algorithms and implement these algorithms into programmable hardware logic. The candidates should also be able to develop architectures and requirements to integrate systems and components into higher level systems and platforms. Defines and conducts tests to validate performance of designs to requirements. Writes appropriate sections of proposals to support development of new business.

Position Responsibilities:
  • Proficient in modern FPGA design processes (design, implementation, simulation, timing closure and validation)
  • Proficient in RTL development (VHDL & Verilog)
  • Proficient in modern design and verification tools including Xilinx Vivado, SDK, HLS, Matlab/Simulink HDL Coder, Questasim
  • Experience with MPSoC HW/SW co-design and low-level SW development. Experience with Xilinx RFSoC is a plus
  • Experience with firmware design verification. Experience with UVM preferred
  • Proficient in HW bench testing using standard lab test equipment such as oscilloscope, spectrum analyzer, etc.
  • Knowledgeable in core digital communications and signal processing theory
  • Knowledge of basic sampling theory, complex baseband representation, poly-phase filter design, error correction codes, synchronization, equalization, and modulation
  • Proficient in modeling and simulation tools (Matlab / Simulink along with relevant toolboxes)
Other skills
  • Design experience with Ethernet and serial interfaces
  • Proficient in configuration management (git)
  • Familiarity with Linux

This position allows telecommuting. The selected candidate will be required to perform some work onsite at one of the listed location options

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skill/Experience):
  • Bachelor's, Master's or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry
  • Experience with FPGA design processes (design, implementation, simulation, timing closure and validation)
  • Experience in core digital communications and signal processing theory

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
  • Design experience with Ethernet and serial interfaces
  • Proficient in configuration management (git)
  • Experience with Linux

Typical Education/Experience: Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years' related work experience, Master+7 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
