This is achieved through five main activities:Sales and account developmentProduct, business development and geography developmentMarketing and customer eventsTraining and knowledge buildLeadership and direction of the regional vertical managersSpecific Job Functions:Sales and Account Development The global vertical leader is expected to be actively engaged as a subject matter expert in assisting the sales team in identifying and closing new business that is strategically important to the vertical.  This is achieved through direct customer engagement as well as supporting the regional vertical managers, account managers, sales executives and geography leaders through the following activities:  Sales Calls and Account DevelopmentDirect customer engagement connected to large and strategically important opportunitiesSponsoring the retention and development of strategically important accountsTarget DevelopmentIdentifying and prioritizing industry segments based on addressable market size and fit for ExpeditorsIdentifying and agreeing on strategically important targets with sales leaders and regional vertical managersVideo Calls           Regular calls with sales owners and account managers on strategically important customersRFIs / RFQsCollaborating and contributing with bid owners on large and strategically important opportunitiesKeeping Seismic up-to-date with relevant content to assist Sales and Account ManagementAnswering specific questions for which stock answers are not availableProduct and Business DevelopmentThe global vertical leader is responsible for:Identifying and educating geography, product, business development and strategy leaders on industry trends and cross product industry service needs and requirements.Collaborating with geography, product, business development leaders to build programs and services which address the unique needs of a specific vertical industry and position Expeditors as an innovation and execution leader in the industry.Supporting geography, product, and business development teams with the development and rollout of industry specific operational procedures, metrics, measurements and training.Creating and delivering sales training to enable the network to sell Expeditors’ industry solutions effectivelyUnderstanding Expeditors competitive positioning in the market and developing strategies to be the acknowledged industry leader in the selected areas of focus.Each product and service development involves five broad steps:Identification, research of opportunity, and prioritization within vertical(s)Initial business requirements proposal – review and sign-off by geography/product/service leadersWrite and publish a detailed business planUndertake product developmentGot to market launch and roll-outThe global vertical leader is responsible for steering the product/geography development from identification to launch.Marketing and Customer Events The global vertical leader is expected to provide the network with content (educational) based marketing:Sales CollateralWriting and publishing case studies and sales flyers that showcase special programs and industry capabilitiesWriting and publishing white papers on industry trendsExpeditors’ Customer EventsProactively identify the need for and support industry specific for Global Logistics Conferences (GLCs), focus groups, and seminarsIndustry EventsParticipating in trade shows, speaking opportunities and customer awardsSocial MediaPost relevant articles and content consistent with Expeditors’ social media policy, internally and externallyTraining and Knowledge BuildingThe global vertical leader is responsible for helping Expeditors geography, product, and business development teams to effectively serve customers in their industry. In collaboration with the regional vertical managers, specific responsibilities include:Developing and delivering training linked to:Industry requirements, trends and regulatory responsibilitiesIndustry specific product/servicesIndustry specific operational standards and proceduresIndustry focused sales training for sales and account managersPromoting activity within the industry subject matter expert (SME) collaboration siteMaintaining the industry vertical’s Insite pages with industry information, sales collateral, best practices, etc.Publishing monthly, and/or quarterly industry updates as appropriatePublishing quarterly executive updatesLeading and Supporting the Regional Vertical ManagersThe global vertical leader is responsible for providing direction and support to the regional vertical manager with a view to ensuring:The vertical program is consistent across all geographiesRegional Tactical Business Plans (TBPs) and target lists are alignedThe regional vertical managers are executing their job responsibilities effectivelyThe global vertical leader should also support geography sales leaders in the recruitment of regional vertical managers.Measurement of SuccessThe performance of the global vertical leader is assessed through their success at:Revenue growth of the vertical globallySupporting the development of new business and new logos with direct engagement with strategically important customersWorking in concert with the geography, product and business development leaders in developing new products and services to support revenue growth in the industry verticalSupport the growth and execution of our business for hi-tech vertical
