Lab TechnicianTacoma, WAJob DescriptionThe main function of a lab technician is to support laboratory operations through general maintenance of laboratory and supply storage areas, equipment, instruments, and supplies. The typical lab technician is expected to use general lab methods, techniques, equipment, and instrumentation in compliance with quality assurance programs and standard operating procedures.Responsibilities
Retrieve samples from Sample Control for analysis.
Perform sample preparation including, but not limited to: aliquot samples, spike and trace samples, prepare reagents, bottle samples, prepare concentrations, separation, sonication, and liquid rack set up.
Resolve discrepancies and anomalies to ensure samples are properly labeled.
Prepare general lab paperwork such as recording analysis results, tracking samples, bench sheets, and lab logbooks.
Wash lab glassware to prepare for next day's samples.
Stock lab supplies.
Essential Skills
Ability to read and comprehend English.
Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Basic knowledge of techniques for lab testing.
Verbal and written communication skills.
Attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work independently and manage one's time.
Ability to analyze data and accurately document and record results.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
High school diploma or GED required.
0-2 years of relevant experience required.
No scientific experience necessary; training on all methods will be provided.
Work EnvironmentAfternoon shift: Monday - Friday, 11 AM - 7 PM primarily, with flexibility required for some weekends and opportunity for overtime. This role may float between sample receiving, organics prep, and metals teams as needed. The entire lab, outside of the specialty team, comprises about 40+ people.Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
