Live-in Caregiver needed starting in July

Companion Home Provider—full time (Yakima County)

Looking for an energetic, reliable individual to become a 24/7 caregiver for a 60-year-old gentleman confined to a wheelchair due to cerebral palsy. The caregiver would reside in the client’s West Valley home basement apartment—free rent and utilities. Caregiver required to pay for his or her own food and personal items.

The official name of the position is “Companion Home Provider,” and it is offered through the Developmental Disabilities Administration (DDA)within DSHS. The application process, which takes about six weeks, requires a completed application form, a background check, fingerprints, and a business license. The DDA may have additional requirements as well.

The position will become available in mid-July 2024.

The Provider would earn approximately $6,000 per month and would be allowed 950 respite-care hours yearly when other respite-care providers would care for the client. The Provider must be on-site during overnight hours, but each day, the client may be unattended for 2 to 4 hours, as long as the Provider, who may be off site during these times is accessible through Apple Messenger.

The client requires assistance in eating, toileting, showering, dressing and meeting personal hygiene needs. The Provider must cook for the client, do laundry, and carry out other household chores. In addition, the Provider must have a valid driver’s license to take the client on outings in his mini-wheelchair-accessible van.
