This position provides mental health treatment, social work counseling, or primary care-based behavioral health services to clients with complex or chronic needs depending on assigned program as determined in the treatment or care plan of the client. Counseling or therapeutic services may be provided independently or as part of a team, with primary care-based services being integrated into the care plan directed by the primary care provider. May also train and oversee the work of other clinical staff. The MHW IV may be designated as the specialized treatment provider in a multiple provider plan. Clients may be multi-service, chronic clients in need of skills training or guidance; those with special issues, such as domestic violence, sexual assault, substance abuse, and anger management; or those with personality disorders, developmental delays, complex diagnosis, and other cases requiring advanced skill level.Essential Functions/Responsibilities/DutiesAssesses initial client treatment needs and formulates appropriate diagnosis. Provides treatment to patients with more complex or multiple diagnoses. Performs intake session with clients and completes Integrated Biopsychosocial Assessment.

Formulates a mental health diagnosis by Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders V (DSM V) standards.

Develops treatment plan incorporating standard practice guidelines for each diagnosis. Provides therapy, supportive therapeutic counseling, and education to assigned individuals.

Applies therapeutic treatment models, such as behavior modification, cognitive behavioral therapy, and brief therapy during counseling sessions.

Responds to crisis situations by assessing urgency and needs and obtaining appropriate services. For example, uses standard screening instrument to assess suicidal potential.

Provides treatment assistance to outside organizations, such as school systems.

Works with individual to transition and maintain a presence in a community setting after psychiatric hospitalizations.

Provides clinical supervision and oversight to Mental Health Workers and therapy assistants which includes clinical chart audits, ongoing case review, and regular meetings to provide guidance and resources.

Develops cross system plans or collaborates with other community professionals in the treatment of individuals. Participates in various community meetings, such as schools, courts, DSHS, corrections, and other health care providers.

Completes encounters and associated documentation, including coding and billing.

Presents case studies and reports to funding sources or as requested by outside organizations.

Measures change and adjusts treatment as needed, using appropriate screening tools.

Provides cognitive behavioral therapy to individuals, families, groups or communities as assigned. Integrates cognitive behavioral interventions in multiple settings.

Enters documentation into the electronic medical record (EMR).

Responds to crisis situations, assessing urgency of patient's needs, provides care, and obtains appropriate services as needed.

Assists patient and family in obtaining additional services and other resources as needed. Documents all referrals made to other resources.

As assigned, participates in various community meetings and serves as a liaison to numerous community agencies and organizations, including school districts, hospitals, law enforcement, Division of Children and Family Services (DCFS) staff, and tribal authorities.

Presents mental health/behavioral health findings and recommendations in verbal or written format to appropriate professionals either upon request or as part of a regular case presentation for peer review or clinical meeting.

Leads staff training sessions on new therapeutic techniques and practices. Provides training and education on clinical topics to team members, staff and the community, as needed.

Performs clinical responsibilities in alignment with The Joint Commission (TJC), Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), and YVFWC requirements.

QualificationsEducation: Master's Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling or related field.

Experience: Two years' experience postgraduate/master's experience in the direct treatment of persons with mental illness or emotional disturbance; such experience must have been gained under the supervision of a mental health professional. Washington State designation as a Mental Health Professional (MHP) may be substituted for this experience requirement. For Specialty BH: One year's full-time experience in the treatment of children under the supervision of a children's mental health specialist. Washington State designation as a Child Mental Health Specialist may be substituted for this experience requirement.

Professional Licenses/Certificates/Registration: Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)/First Aid certification (or obtained within 45 days of employment). Valid Driver's License and proof of automobile liability insurance coverage. One of the following licenses is required for this position (must apply for within one week of hire if the license is not current):

Licensed Advanced Social Worker (LASW) or Associate

Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) or Associate

Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) or Associate

Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) or Associate

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Knowledge of Federal, State, and County social services regulations and systems. Knowledge of the theories of human growth. Knowledge of physical, emotional, and cognitive developmental stages. Knowledge of State mental health and special education requirements. Knowledge of the psychological principals in learning and their application to treatment stages. Knowledge of advanced evaluative techniques of personality, academic behavior, and cognitive domains. Knowledge of cultural differences and impact on support provided to clients. Ability to utilize the DSM V and multi-axial diagnostic process. Ability to synthesize and formulate the assessment data into a comprehensive treatment summary. Conflict resolution skills and ability to diffuse stressful situations. Effective verbal, written, and listening communication skills. Ability to exercise independent judgement and solid decision making. Ability to work in a team-oriented, collaborative environment. Basic proficiency with a variety of computer programs including Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel. English/ Spanish bilingual proficiency in written and verbal communication is preferred. Must demonstrate the ability to communicate at level 10 on the ALTA language proficiency scale to receive bilingual differential pay.
