With these amazing new capabilities come new risks for our customers and new responsibilities for our services.Experiences and Devices (E+D) Digital Trust and Safety team builds and manages high-scale distributed systems, helps define the processes that are used to leverage them, and provides the user experience (UX) and configurability that come together to prevent customers of Microsoft’s services from being exposed to digital harms and prevent Microsoft’s services from being used to inflict digital harms. This involves partnering with engineering and operations teams across the company to help them navigate the technical and policy challenges while also engaging with industry partners and Non Governmental Organizations (NGOs) to contribute to whole-of-society solutions for battling online child sexual abuse and other abhorrent crimes. We aspire to make the digital world safer.As the Principal Group Engineering Manager for Digital Trust and Safety, you will work closely with Product Managers, Operations, and Policy experts to help define scalable processes that help keep our customers and our services safe. You will help build and maintain a high performing engineering orgnization that produces massively scalable and reliable services in support of those processes and work with engineers across Microsoft’s broad portfolio of services to find the most efficient and effective ways to integrate our services and processes into their workloads and collect and summarize data for management and compliance purposes. Establish best practices and provide technical leadership. Influence overall system architecture that ensures we can meet our scale and reliability requirements in a sustainable manner. Ensure that we quickly detect, effectively mitigate, and learn from live site incidents.

Build and maintain impactful partnerships with the internal customers that leverage our tools and the workloads that integrate with our services. Leverage feedback channels to incorporate their insights into future designs or solutions.

Collaborate with the leadership team to build a long-term roadmap that accounts for the ever-expanding nature of the harms we work to mitigate and the constantly changing regulatory environment.

Help the team deftly balance our desires to make our services and customers safer, our desires to respect our customers privacy, and our desires to meet our regulatory requirements and policy goals.

QualificationsRequired/Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

OR equivalent experience.

Experience building, deploying and supporting high-scale Internet services.

4+ years people management experience.

Additional or Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 12+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 10+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

OR equivalent experience.

6+ years people management experience.

Experience relating to policy governance or regulatory compliance for software services.

Experience with image/video processing or machine learning.

Experience with large scale, event-based compliance reporting services and/or data analytics.

Software Engineering M6 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $158,500 - $276,600 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $202,800 - $304,200 per year.Certain roles may be eligible for benefits and other compensation.
