The Global Product Systems and Development team is responsible for leading the development of the business applications that enable execution of Expeditors’ revenue-generating transportation products by our branches. We are hiring a

Product Manager (PM) for Enhanced Tracking, responsible for defining and supporting the development of desirable, feasible, viable, and sustainable products that meet the needs of our customers, employees and service providers through consistent delivery of new value-adding functionality.

The PM will lead by establishing clear business outcome objectives for enhanced tracking products (aka "data as a product"), validate needs and desired outcomes from internal and external stakeholders, and prioritize work based on need, resources and overall alignment to Expeditors’ strategic initiatives and enablers. They are accountable to both senior business leadership and Agile teams to refine and groom the program-level backlog to reflect customer, employee and service provider needs (and opportunities for value-adding innovation), overall company and Global Product vision, and commercial and market considerations. The PM must have a strong command of commercial realities and user empathy in order to be resolute about maximizing dev team resources and value delivery. The PM will need to be adept at working with a diverse group of constituents including senior leaders, geo leaders, service providers and related third parties and be able to use these relationships to inform prioritization while also relying on data and strategic alignment for direction. The PM will also be accountable to ensure successful and timely release of functionality to end-users utilizing development and release management resources.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Understand customer, employee and service provider needs and translate them into strategy and vision for product.
  • Ensure alignment with company goals and strategy.
  • Initiate and lead Continuous Exploration (CE) activities with business owners, analysts, architects and product management to continually explore market and customer needs.
  • Be viewed as the leader of the Enhanced Tracking area by creating a shared vision that teams and stakeholders buy into.
  • Understand, articulate and develop strategy around how "data as a product" can be a force multiplier for executing on key initiatives and tactical needs across multiple teams and programs that can consume and operationalize said data products.
  • Define Program Increment (PI) scope and releases.
  • Build and maintain a roadmap that is aligned to company goals and the realities of the teams building features.
  • Manage flow of work to teams through prioritization and understanding of technical challenges.
  • Create and maintain lean business cases, epic hypotheses and tracking of cost vs. value creation.
  • Travel to see the work that customers, service providers and internal users do and the problems they need to solve.
  • Coordinate and oversee release of functionality to end-users (using release management resources).
  • Ensure feedback about released functionality is gathered through user feedback channels and data collection and prioritize feedback-driven enhancements against new feature development and technical work.
  • Own and drive quality, uptime and performance of the product as chief components of customer satisfaction.
  • Display and model an Agile mindset, practice economic decision-making and reinforce and teach the tenets of the SAFe framework, especially decentralizing decisions to teams and focusing on shortest lead-time to value delivery to users.

  • Proficient working knowledge of (or demonstrated capability to quickly learn about) the current market space for enhanced tracking solutions for the transportation and logistics industry and the ability to distinguish between hype and those areas that Expeditors could derive actual value from investing in.
  • Experience working with multiple senior leaders and in a climate of ambiguous or diverging priorities that required leadership and consensus building to gain alignment.
  • Experience working with diverse groups of subject matter experts that included soliciting and engaging their expertise as key inputs that inform decisions around further investment.
  • Awareness of the use of analytics in product development and able to work with technical teams to design, implement and use analytical tools to provide additional metrics and data to inform how and where to make investment decisions.
  • Experience working in freight forwarding or other transportation industry roles.
  • Experience with software development and shipping products for internal and external users.
  • Experience and proficiency with software development lifecycle and software development methodologies including SAFe, Lean, Scrum and Agile.
  • Certification or ability to become certified in Leading SAFe and SAFe PM/PO.
  • Proven interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with a wide spectrum of people including senior leaders, customers and people across geographies.
  • Effective at navigating ambiguity and helping diverse teams drive towards clarity and consensus.
  • Excellent time management and organization skills.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication.
  • Ability to recognize and mitigate risks.
  • Highly literate in current industry issues, topics and market drivers that affect our software.
  • A curiosity about software engineering tools and practices that facilitates better decision-making and better relationships with eningeering team members.
  • A strong interest and desire for knowledge about the commercial and operational aspects of Expeditors’ network and the broader transportation industry.
