Operate radio, telephones, computerized and electronic communications equipment.

Work under the direct supervision of a Communications Sergeant.

Perform duties as licensed security/communication officers on a 24-hour-a-day, 7-day-per-week basis.

Act independently and take initiative in daily tasks.

Maintain proficiency in all security-related tasks.

Operate computer terminals, Simplex Fire Systems, Cardkey Computer, License Plate Recognition program, Emergency Intercoms, Elevator Intercoms, and control switches.

Handle multiple tasks efficiently and accurately.

Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Follow and interpret rules and regulations, including safety regulations.

Formulate appropriate plans of action in various situations.

Work varied shifts, including weekends and holidays.

Monitor and operate fixed base communications equipment as part of a security network.

Coordinate movement of security personnel in response to routine and emergency situations.

Monitor electronic alarms, emergency management systems, and other warning systems.

Provide information and assistance to the public.

Monitor video surveillance camera systems.

Prepare reports, testimony, statements, and other materials.

Perform clerical duties including filing and data coding.

Manage lost and found property.

Maintain alertness and attention to assignments while seated for long periods.

Calm emotionally charged situations and provide directions to visitors.

Essential Skills

Successful completion of pre-assignment security tapes and safety orientation.

Training in MSDS program, emergency evacuation, CPR/First Aid & AED, fire extinguisher response, Microsoft Office, Perspective, Verbal Judo, control room/dispatcher training, and 911 procedures.

Proficiency in English.

Ability to maintain composure and make appropriate decisions in various situations.

Ability to prioritize simultaneous requests and messages.

Quick and accurate transcription of radio and telephone messages.

Minimal supervision required for assigned duties.

Effective and professional public interaction.

Accurate memory for details.

Ability to learn new procedures and adapt existing ones.

Following oral and written instructions.

Reasonable typing speed with accuracy.

Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.

Knowledge of departmental rules and procedures.

Knowledge of codes and abbreviations for radio communications and related electronics equipment.

Understanding of laws and regulations in loss prevention and property management.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

Optional training in flagging for special events.
