Find your future with us.The Boeing Company is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join the Onboard Network Systems (ONS) team in Seattle, Washington.The ONS team is seeking Software Engineers to extend and enhance airplane platform software. This is one of the few teams in BCA (Boeing Commercial Airplanes) that produces and maintains software running on production airframes. ONS platform software manages onboard networks, offboard communication, LRU (Line Replaceable Unit) dataload, file storage, third party developed software, and a whole host of additional features that airline customers rely on.The Senior Software Engineers will work in multi-disciplinary teams with Systems Engineers, Testers, business leaders, and airline customers to design and build new ONS platform features. ONS platform software is now on its 10th major version and there are significant opportunities for incrementally refactoring existing code and designing for reusable and extensible architectures.The ONS platform software uses a number of technologies and the team is in need of Engineers with a wide variety of software engineering skills.At Boeing, we innovate and collaborate to make the world a better place. Leads activities to develop, document and maintain architectures, requirements, algorithms, interfaces and designs for software systems.
Leads development of code and integration of complex software components into a fully functional software system.
Provides technical leadership for software projects and leads software supplier management activities.
Leads development, selection, tailoring and deployment of processes, tools and metrics.
Plans, executes and documents software research and development projects.
Serves as a subject matter expert for software domains, system-specific issues, processes and regulations.
Tracks and evaluates software team and supplier performance to ensure product and process conformance to project plans and industry standards.
Works under minimal direction
Represents the organization as the prime technical contact on projects.
Interacts with senior personnel on significant technical matters often requiring coordination between organizations.
This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.This position must meet export control compliance requirements. To meet export control compliance requirements, a “U.S. Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. §120.15 is required. “U.S. Person” includes U.S. Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics or other technical degree
5+ years professional development experience with C, C, C#, Python, Java or Ada
5+ years professional experience in software or hardware engineering, requirements, design, development, test and working with software and hardware
5+ years professional experience with system and/or software requirements definition
3+ Years of professional experience leading incremental code refactoring
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
3+ Years working with external stakeholders to develop vaguely defined needs into software deliverable milestones, and leading a team of developers in their implementation
5+ Years of professional development experience managing project source code in a Git repository
4+ Years of professional experience developing in a Linux runtime environment
3+ Years of professional experience maintaining a fully automated build pipeline
Typical Education/Experience:Bachelor's degree and typically 9 or more years' experience in an engineering classification or a Master's degree with typically 7 or more years' experience in an engineering classification or a PhD degree with typically 4 or more years' experience in an engineering classification. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry.
