Silicon development at Microsoft scale requires petabytes of storage spread across multiple clusters in multiple environments, both physical and cloud-based, serving a multitude of client types. The Senior Storage Engineer will hold primary responsibility for the data storage systems necessary for the silicon research and design process. Manage day to day operations of the physical and cloud based storage systems for silicon data serving both Windows and UNIX clients.

Drive creation and maintenance of data handling process & policy documentation.

Drive automation of storage management and reporting including disaster recovery planning for storage systems in use.

Forecast storage requirements, schedules, and resource plans.

Manage the scope of work and deliverables provided by external staff.

Research and evaluate differing storage solutions and weigh the applicability to engineering need, developing cost/benefit analysis to guide the decision process.

Embody our Culture (https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/about/corporate-values) and Values (https://careers.microsoft.com/us/en/culture)QualificationsRequired/Minimum Qualifications:Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field AND 3+ years technical experience in software engineering, network engineering, service engineering, or systems engineeringo OR equivalent experience.3+ Years of File Storage Systems Administration experience.2+ Years of UNIX/Linux Systems Administration experience.2+ Years of system automation experience using some scripting language such as Shell, Perl, or Python.Other Requirements:Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check:

This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred/Additional Qualifications:

Understanding of networking, systems administration, automation, and monitoring.

Understanding of Electronic Design Automation (EDA) concepts.

Service Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $112,000 - $218,400 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $145,800 - $238,600 per year.Certain roles may be eligible for benefits and other compensation.
