DescriptionAmazon’s Supply Chain Optimization Technologies (SCOT) is looking for experienced Software Development Managers who want to build Amazon’s next generation Inventory planning systems. Our software is used in every country Amazon services, and is a critical link to ensuring the products our customers want are available when they need them.As an SDM in SCOT, you’ll work closely with some of the brightest software engineers, research scientists, and product managers to solve highly complex supply chain challenges. You and your fellow engineers are responsible for designing the architecture, building the software, and working with the team to deploy your solutions across the globe. SCOT is a unique opportunity to both create and see the direct impact of your work on billions of dollars’ worth of inventory in one of the world’s most advanced supply chains, at massive scale.As a Software Development Manager, you will:

Lead design and development of highly extensible software systems to meet the rapid growth of Inventory planning systems.

Define the strategy and engineering roadmap for your team

Hire and develop the industry’s best talent to build a strong and well-balanced team

Work across the organization to deliver the best in-class delivery experience for our customers while balancing critical business objectives

Build software that easily extends to meet the high growth of Amazon's delivery business and capabilities

Own and operate mission critical services that are highly reliable and extremely low latency

You should be comfortable diving deep into technical architectures and requirements, be able to quickly identify solutions to challenges discovered during development, and ready to work with some of the latest cloud computing technology. Prior experience of managing teams, building stable, scalable, solutions is required. Successful candidates will thrive in fast-paced environments that leverage agile planning techniques, encourage and reward creative design, intelligent risk taking, and find innovative ways to leverage cutting edge technology.Basic Qualifications

3+ years of engineering team management experience

7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience

3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience

Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations

Experience partnering with product or program management teams

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy

Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers

The base pay for this position ranges from $166,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $287,700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
