DescriptionProject Kuiper is an initiative to increase global broadband access through a constellation of 3,236 satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO). Project Kuiper will help close the digital divide by delivering fast, affordable broadband to a wide range of customers, including consumers, businesses, government agencies, and other organizations operating in places without reliable connectivity.The Senior Technical Program Manager for Kuiper will help define and develop the interfaces, manage requirements, and organize technical efforts. This role includes direct responsibility for program management of system level development, integration, and test. This is a highly technical role requiring experience with integrated hardware and software development as well as some appreciation for complex applications. You will have significant influence over the design and the test approach we take to develop the system.You will tackle challenging, novel situations every day and have the opportunity to work with multiple technical teams at Amazon in different locations. You should be comfortable with a high degree of ambiguity and relish the idea of solving problems that haven't been solved at scale before. Work with product/program management to ensure that Kuiper Electrical Engineering / Power systems and venues meet schedule, technical, and quality requirements.

Define and participate in system-level technical reviews for Electrical Engineering / Power System

Collaborate with engineering leaders to track project plans for hardware and software through the entire development life cycle; requirements to development to validation in an Agile development environment.

Decompose technical requirements for test into software and hardware requirements aligned with development, manufacturing and verification test strategy.

Work with external teams to identify and mitigate programmatic risks in meeting shared goals.

Communicate clearly and effectively to executive management on the plans, status, and critical issues.

Escalate urgent issues appropriately and drive them to closure in a timely manner.

Identify and manage the conduct of trade studies and analyses necessary to understanding performance and other aspects of the design.

Organize regular project and team meetings, focusing teams on program milestones and unblock technical issues by pulling together the multi-functional technical expertise to resolve the issues.

Set agenda, communicate meeting notes and actions; follow up with responsible owners.

Participate in technical discussions, ask probing questions, and work with the team to pull together scoping, schedules, and solutions to issues.

Demonstrate leadership and be adept at navigating through tough situations, juggling various priorities and managing constraints.

Deliver high quality products that optimize performance, mass, cost, manufacturing, and reliability of systems.

Optimize the velocity of engineering development through the design and application of mechanisms.

Export Control Requirement:Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.Basic Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.

5+ years of hardware, software, system integration and test development of complex systems across the full product life cycle – concept to production.

2+ years of experience in a technical lead, systems engineer, or technical program management role with significant experience in architecture and integrating HW and SW into a complex system.

2+ years of experience leading cross-functional teams delivering products on schedule.

Proficiency with at least one schedule tracking tools such as MS Project, SmartSheet or alternative.

Preferred Qualifications

Masters's degree in electrical engineering, or equivalent experience.

Ability to lead interdisciplinary discussions between Hardware, Reliability, and Firmware teams to define and drive scope and clarity of work, and reach optimum system level trades.

Experience in systems engineering and associated modern concepts and approaches.

Experience in high speed characterization of devices, operation of high speed and high frequency test equipment, network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, and high-speed oscilloscopes.

Experience developing high-performance systems for aerospace applications or systems operating in extreme environments.

Experience in automated testing and system characterization.

Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Track record of successfully delivering complete systems (hardware, firmware, software) on time, to scope, with high quality.

Ability to regularly engage with senior stake holders and influence across the organization.

Excellent analytical and interpersonal skills, with ability to work successfully across all engineering disciplines.

High sense of ownership, urgency, and drive.

Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical individuals.

The base pay for this position ranges from $136,100/year in our lowest geographic market up to $235,200/year in our highest geographic market.
