What will you be doing?ALTEN UK is seeking a proactive and collaborative Contractor Design Manager to support major infrastructure and energy projects, including high-integrity environments such as nuclear, energy, and regulated sectors. In this key role, you will coordinate and integrate multi-disciplinary design activities, ensuring alignment between contractor, consultants, and the wider project team. You will support the safe, efficient, and on-time delivery of projects through strategic design management and effective stakeholder engagement.Your work will play a critical role in de-risking design, enhancing constructability, and improving project performance across cost, programme, and quality metrics.Your main responsibilities will be:Coordinate and integrate consultant and contractor design activities in alignment with project strategy, programme, and construction methodologyAct as a central point of communication, providing a clear and unified voice to design consultantsEnsure timely delivery of design information by tracking progress against KPIs and supporting consultant performanceFacilitate constructability and sequencing reviews to ensure buildable and safe design solutionsSupport design compliance with project standards, regulatory frameworks (e.g. CDM, ONR, DNSR), and client governanceAssist in preparing scopes of service for consultants and specialist packages, ensuring clarity and alignmentAlign consultant resources with project priorities and critical path milestonesCoordinate pre-construction inputs such as decisions, site data, and contractor resources into the designSupport the commercial team in contract administration for consultants and sub-consulted design packagesAssist with payment certification, milestone achievement tracking, and KPI performance reviewsManage interface coordination across multiple designers and disciplines, avoiding scope gapsEnsure information management processes (CDE uploads, approvals, traceability) are followedIdentify and manage design change, assessing impact on programme, cost, and risk before implementationCollaborate with project teams to flag technical challenges and recommend specialist input when neededYou arePassionate about delivering quality outcomes through coordinated and collaborative project designCommunicative, proactive, and outcome-drivenMotivated to work in technically complex, high-value infrastructure programmesComfortable navigating between engineering, project management, commercial, and technical stakeholders
