NEW HIGHER PAY: $32,460 - $56,806

The Challenge
We are looking for an experienced transportation worker to join our Wake County Maintenance team.

In this role you will:
⦁ Do preventive maintenance, repair, and construction of State-maintained roads.
⦁ Install traffic & erosion control devices, clear of right of ways, conduct roadway grading, and machine unpaved roads.
⦁ Perform pavement repair, pipe installation or other drainage tasks.
⦁ Inspect contract work and monitor manual tasks performed.
⦁ Perform emergency response including traffic accident clean-ups, snow and ice removal, and other emergencies as they occur.
⦁ Operate equipment including bulldozers, excavators, backhoes, skid steers, tandem dump trucks, front end loaders, tractor trailers, motor graders, rollers, and other pieces of heavy equipment as needed.
⦁ Perform flagging operations to safely guide traffic through work zones.

What You Bring
⦁ Ability to act on verbal and written communications.
⦁ Traffic control and lane closures on multi-lane roads experience.
⦁ Experience in 1+ of the following: shoulder and ditch maintenance, pipe installation, or asphalt patching.
⦁ Snow and ice removal operations experience.
⦁ Experience in the maintenance and installation of erosion control devices.
⦁ Experience operating 2+ pieces of the following equipment: backhoe, tandem dump truck, motor grader, front end loader, forklift, force feed loader, asphalt distributor, crack sealing machine, track excavator, skid steer, or sweeper.
⦁ Ability to operate a Class A motor vehicle wen N endorsement.
⦁ Ability to receive and give effective written and verbal communications.
⦁ Ability to perform manual labor for extended periods of time.
⦁ Able to operate vibrating equipment and work in extreme hot and/or cold weather.
⦁ Agility to climb, bend, and traverse steep/uneven terrain.
⦁ Strength to repeatedly lift 50 pounds.
⦁ Safety-toe shoes.
⦁ Commercial Driver License. (Note: If you don't have this, you can get it through our on-the-job training within 360 days of hire).

Notes
⦁ This role subject to emergency call backs and scheduled night work during adverse weather or other extreme circumstances.
⦁ We may require work during nontraditional work hours including nights, weekends, and holidays.
⦁ We will conduct a pre-employment drug test and check with your employers over the past 2 years for alcohol/drug abuse.

Education & Experience
⦁ High school/GED diploma, and
⦁ 5+ years of relevant experience; or
⦁ An equivalent combination of education and experience.
