R&D position within the polymer synthesis and development R&D team. The individual in this position is to bring subject matter expertise and leadership to our development and formulation of next generation polymers for coatings applications. This job requires strong knowledge of emulsion polymer synthesis and structure-property understanding for a variety coatings, sealant and adhesive applications. Additionally, the individual in this role must present strong leadership, organizational skills and capabilities, and experience. The job requires a high degree of analysis, innovation and creative problem solving, and collaboration within the R&D team. The position offers a great career opportunity to act in a scientist and leader capacity. There is potential for growth into a higher technical leadership role including future R&D Director for our synthetic R&D team as the capabilities and growth impact are demonstrated.

Key Technical Responsibilities

  • Design and develop new emulsion polymers for coatings, sealant and adhesive applications, monitor technology trends and developments in coatings applications, and identify new technologies for waterborne coatings while exploring feasibility of novel polymer chemistries
  • Utilize scientific methodology practices for planning and executing experimental development of new initiatives from early concept to commercialization
  • Utilize efficient methodology and sound technical principals to help solve product and manufacturing problems.
  • Monitor and supervise all stages of product development, from lab to production-scale batches
  • Collaborate with supply chain to identify and evaluate new and alternative materials
  • Maintain understanding of the competitive and supplier IP landscapes, analyze industry trends and emerging technologies

    Technical and Leadership Qualifications
  • B.S. or higher degree in chemistry (M.Sc/Ph.D is preferred) or related field with some working experience in emulsion polymer development and commercialization
  • Expert knowledge in emulsion polymers, ability to provide technical leadership to the polymer R&D teams
  • Ability to prove and develop commercial products from concepts
  • Highly motivated and a self-starter, capable of working independently and driving projects to completion
  • Strong and proven project management skills, and ability to influence and lead technical teams.
  • Highly capable of managing complex and multiple projects, prioritizing and meeting timelines
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills, using scientific and analytical tools in developing polymers
  • Strong organization skills, detail-oriented and highly organized
  • Possess outstanding communication skills - both oral and written, ability to communicate clearly and candidly the scientific concepts, project status, effectively fostering collaborative relationships at all organizational levels
