Supports Direct Writer Sales through the evaluation of new and renewal insurance applications and the placement (or declination) of with excess and surplus lines or standard insurance markets for coverage needs or exposures for that do not meet Sentry underwriting guidelines or appetite. The Specialist typically focuses on more complex policies that are placed through one or multiple brokers or insurance companies.

What You'll Do

  • Reviews new and renewal insurance applications submitted by Sentry sales associates for completeness and accuracy. Submits completed applications to available insurance markets for underwriting and quote. Works with insurance markets and the sales associate to gather any additional information required in the underwriting process.

  • Prepares quotes, proposals, finance agreements, certificates of insurance, binders and other insurance documents and releases to Sentry sales associates for delivery to customers and prospective customers.

  • Acts as a subject matter expert with Sentry sales associates on available markets, coverage forms, endorsements, exclusions, rating and proposals.

  • Adheres to agency service standards. When capacity allows, supports team members in meeting service standards.

  • Corresponds with Sentry sales associates through both phone calls and e-mail on a variety of insurance matters related to business quoted and written through the agency. Regular examples include policy renewal set-up and instructions and delinquent payment follow-up.

  • Provides support to the Operations Supervisors in researching and developing new markets to meet the needs of Direct Writer.

  • Supports the preparation and delivery of training sessions for other agency associates and Direct Writer associates on Parker Stevens Agency markets, processes and best practices. Training sessions may include classroom, online, conference calls or other media.

  • Participates in project work, as needed. Examples include evaluating and maintaining agency work processes and procedures and agency communications.

  • Maintains knowledge of various state and premium laws.

  • Maintains all file documentation and records required by law.

  • Performs other job-related duties requiring the same general knowledge, skills and degree of responsibility commensurate with assigned level.

What it Takes

  • Bachelors Degree or equivalent work experience.

  • 3+ years of related work experience preferred.

  • Previous experience in a customer service environment with agency experience preferred.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

  • Knowledge and understanding of Sentry underwriting guidelines and philosophies. Ability to analytically evaluate insurance applicant information and make sound recommendations.

  • Ability to work in a fast pace, continually changing environment.

  • Proficiency with personal computer and software programs. Demonstrates a high level of proficiency in the PSA EPIC system and other Sentry systems, such as CRM and Microsoft Office applications.

  • Maintains a Wisconsin Intermediary License for P&C and L&H.
