Job description

As a Data Engineer, your main responsibilities will include creating complex datasets for use by our Data Scientists, Actuaries, and other analysts. You will work directly with various business individuals to identify the areas of opportunities and construct datasets from complex sources for statistical analysis. The Data Engineer must be someone with experience solving data engineering problems in a variety of manners, intellectually curious, and with a commitment to unlocking the value of data.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Constructs business facing datasets from a variety of sources internal and external to enable and perform analysis based on requests from project teams or senior leadership.
  • Breaks down business opportunities to identify business facing datasets to appropriately align to organizational needs through a business perspective.
  • Integrates data from multiple data sources or functional areas, evaluates data quality, and transforms data as needed.
  • Analyzes and interprets data to identify business trends, conduct root cause analysis of business problems, or suggest areas for process improvement.
  • Growth oriented mindset with a strong desire to learn and stay current on best practices and emerging capabilities to analyze data.

Preferred Experience and Skills

  • 10+ years of data engineering experience
  • 5+ years in Property & Casualty Insurance with a thorough understanding of insurance data and core insurance metrics
  • Leadership and mentoring skills
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Advanced knowledge of SQL, Python, R, SAS, and other various data engineering tools
  • Ability to manage large complex projects or processes independently
