Job Description
The
Baker is responsible for preparing high quality baked goods and deserts to fulfill restaurant and retail needs.ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES/FUNCTIONS:- Prepares and bakes goods such as breads, cakes, pies, cookies, pastries, and similar items as well as desert menu items.
- Adjusts volume of baked goods based on expected business volume.
- Mixes and prepares icings, fillings, sauces, and other garnishes for baked goods.
- Ensures all baked goods and desert items are aesthetically acceptable for resale.
- Follows company recipes as written.
- Communicates ingredient and supply needs to management.
- Follows all company procedures including environmental, safety, sanitation, product rotation, temperature, storage, and waste control procedures.
- Maintains a clean and organized kitchen area.
- Works extra hours and shifts as required.
- Assists in other positions and departments as required.
- Knows and follows all company, Environmental, Health, and Safety Management Programs and policies.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Ability to read baking recipes in English
- Excellent baking knowledge and skills
- Good math skills; Ability to make precise measurements using measuring cups, measuring spoons, scales, etc.
- Proper knife skills and ability to operate baking and kitchen equipment in a safe manner
- Knowledge of proper food handling, food storage, and sanitation procedures
- Proper food handling or equivalent certification or ability to obtain upon hire.
- Ability to use kitchen baking equipment such as ovens and mixers.
- Ability to hand-knead dough repetitively.
- Ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 40 lbs. frequently.
- Ability to stand and walk on paved, unpaved, uneven and sometimes slippery surfaces for extended periods of time.
- Ability to kneel, stoop, crouch, twist/turn, push, pull, and reach forward, down, and overhead repetitively.
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent and 2 years of restaurant/retail baking or related work experience, or equivalent combination of work experience and education required.
