GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

This position will

perform management, maintenance and administration of the State of Wyoming Enterprise Network and the Wyoming Equality Network (WEN).

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed in the job level.

  • Verify and troubleshoot connectivity from the Unified Network aggregation points to all end points and outbound to the Internet.
  • Design, maintain, performance tune, secure network devices and ensure availability of large scale network routers for the State of Wyoming Enterprise Network.
  • Troubleshoot advanced problems relating to enterprise network operating systems, network switching/routing, and LAN (Local Area Network) and WAN (Wide Area Network) network connectivity.
  • Configure, maintain and monitor wide-area network routers for use in large-scale, wide area, routed network.
  • Manage, analyze, design, monitor and support all state network devices located throughout the State of Wyoming.

Qualifications

PREFERENCES:

  • Preference may be given to those with experience in Cisco Network Administration, CCNA CCNP certifications.
  • Preference may be given to those with experience in Juniper technology areas, Juniper JUNOS and Juniper certifications.
  • Preference may be given to those with experience in the management, analysis, design, monitoring and support of wide area networks.
  • Preference may be given to those with experience in the installation, modification, or replacement of hardware or software components and any configuration changes that affect network infrastructures.
  • Preference may be given to those with experience in configuration, maintenance and monitoring of wide-area network routers for use in large-scale, wide area, routed networks.
  • Preference may be given to those with experience in consulting and communicating with contract consultants, vendors, local network administrators, peers, and all levels of management.

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Expert skill in analysis of complex network systems, problem identification and solution design.
  • Expert skill in research and testing of alternative, proprietary or custom solutions.
  • Expert knowledge of IP network engineering and design.
  • Expert knowledge of IP routing protocols
  • Advanced knowledge of networking hardware used in the state's enterprise network infrastructure.
  • Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques of network security and architecture.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to learn new technical concepts quickly and apply them to current work.
  • Ability to communicate technical information to both technical and non-technical persons efficiently.
  • Ability to lead the work of others on specific projects/tasks.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

Bachelor's Degree (typically in Computer Technology)

Experience:

1-2 years of progressive work experience in Systems and Infrastructure with acquired knowledge at the level of a Systems Technologist III

OR

Education & Experience Substitution:

4-6 years of progressive work experience in Systems and Infrastructure with acquired knowledge at the level of a Systems Technologist III

Necessary Special Requirements

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Rotational on-call requirements.
  • Some travel with overnight stays.
  • Frequent work on weekends.
  • Ability to lift 40 lbs.
  • Ability to climb 8 ft. ladder
