DESCRIPTION

Responsible for developing new firearms products and related components from concept to production. Responsible for design and development of new and existing products, fixtures and equipment including R&D, design, testing, troubleshooting, improvements, procedure development and documentation.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design and develop new firearm products and related components
    • Create innovative designs through the proficient use of 3D CAD
    • Manage design projects including building of prototypes, testing, and evaluation
    • Evaluate, validate, and approve designs and drawings
  • Improve existing products through new design work
    • Design and/or evaluate alternative components, materials, and processes to improve product performance, reduce costs and improve efficiency
  • Design fixtures and gauges
  • Assign projects to less experienced engineering personnel
  • With the Quality and Production Departments, troubleshoot and solve product related problems
  • Assist vendors with product related questions, projects, and product
  • With the New Products Manager, write technical product procedures and specifications
  • With Marketing, Production and Planning, aid in smooth launch of new products.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.

Education & Experience

  • BS degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field and/or six (6) plus years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Related experience includes complex technical experience with product and process design and development and optimization.
  • Firearm design experience preferred.
  • Previous supervisor experience.

Technical Capacity

  • High level of proficiency with 3D CAD; experience in 2-dimensional drafting and 3-dimensional solid design
  • Extensive experience with SolidWorks CAD software
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes including machining, metal finishing, heat treating, plastic and metal injection molding
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally to industry trade shows and vendor factories to support production and product development

Communication Proficiency

  • Strong communication, presentation, and organizational skills Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment in a manner that facilitates teamwork.

  • Meet objective goals assigned by Director of Engineering during performance coaching.

While performing the duties of this job, this position may be exposed to the manufacturing environment and may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in this work environment can be loud.
