We’re looking for someone who is well-rounded in Data Engineering, Cloud technologies and DevOps to join the Unified Data and Analytics Platform engineering team, which enables data & analytics across the enterprise using innovative technology, built with scalable architecture and collection of multiple tools.

The Lead Data Engineer designs, builds, and maintains data processing architectures and solutions enabling the efficient conversion of structured and unstructured data to insights at enterprise scale. The Lead Data Engineer works on problems of diverse scope and complexity ranging from moderate to substantial.

Responsibilities

The Lead Data Engineer:

  • Ingests data from internal and external sources utilizing cloud native platforms and software development best practices and patterns

  • Develops software tools that leverage artificial intelligence, machine learning, and big-data techniques to cleanse, organize, and transform data into insights and actions that enables Humana to better serve our members

  • Advises executives to develop functional strategies (often segment specific) on matters of significance

  • Exercises independent judgment and decision making on complex issues regarding job duties and related tasks, and works under minimal supervision,

  • Uses independent judgment requiring analysis of variable factors and determining the best course of action

  • Develos tooling and infrastructure to efficiently integrate with data platforms using support services like data registries (ex. OpenMetadata, Atlan, Alation), Git, DBT, Orchestration tools like Airflow/Prefect, and query federation tools like Starburst - at scale, across multiple clouds, geographies and deployment types. This includes CI/CD processes, test frameworks for pipelines and data quality, and infrastructure-as-code tooling.

  • Partners with Humana Product, enterprise architecture and engineering teams to provide leadership in developing the long-term vision and requirements

  • Builds reliable data pipelines using Python and solve data problems using Databricks, Snowflake and other partner tools. Provides early feedback on the design and operations of these products.

  • Establishes conventions and creates new APIs for telemetry, debug, feature and audit event log data, and evolves them as the product and underlying services change.

Qualifications

  • 8 or more years of progressive IT experience as a senior developer in large IT projects. Strong experience building scalable data platforms and data engineering

  • Experience providing technical leadership on large projects - ETL frameworks, metrics stores, infrastructure management, data security.

  • Experience building, shipping and operating reliable multi-geo data pipelines at scale.

  • Experience working with and operating workflow or orchestration frameworks, including open source tools like Airflow and DBT

  • Experience with large-scale messaging systems like Kafka

  • Excellent cross-functional and communication skills, consensus builder.

  • Passion for data engineering and for enabling others by making their data easier to access.

  • Experience with cloud technologies, preferred Azure. Docker and Kubernetes

  • Knowledge with infrastructure and security as code

  • Strong DevOps and DevSecOps experience. Understanding of code versioning concepts and have experience with tools like git

  • Can connect dots among difference pieces of information gained from multiple sources

  • Experience troubleshooting software applications that involve APIs, databases, and frontend
