DESCRIPTION

Lead the activities of the Stock Value Stream to meet targets and objectives for Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost. Provide leadership and direction for employee development and process improvement utilizing Lean systems and principles. Work efficiently with other departments to coordinate orders and move products through the Finishing process to meet business goals. Responsible for the finishing of Weatherby rifle stocks, and providing guidance within stock finishing operations. Finishes may include painting and top coats applied with a high-volume; low-pressure (HVLP) spray gun, hand-sponged application, hydrographic finishes and other technologies as they are developed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Clean and prep products as they arrive to the stock finishing operation
  • Guide each unit through the stock finishing process

  • Operate an HVLP spray gun with efficiency and consistency

  • Apply water transfer printed film precisely

  • Inspect all products post-coating and curing

  • Perform at a high level without sacrificing quality to support all corresponding value streams

  • Guide scheduling, staffing, and throughput of the stock finishing department

  • Measure performance consistent with the departments KPI's, sales, quality, delivery, and cost

  • Maintain accurate records using Microsoft Word, Excel and/or Google documents and spreadsheets

  • Sanding and preparation of stocks

  • Identifying and filling blemishes present in material

  • Installation of 3DHex Recoil Pad

  • Maintain a clean and efficient work area

  • Utilization of Sage and other management systems for inventory control, efficiency, tracking and scheduling

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Every Weatherby Lead is required to provide a safe and effective working environment and to support the well-being of each employee through awareness, education and appropriate training of drug and alcohol issues.

  • Supervise employees, work schedules, job assignments, and production sequences to meet production goals.

    • Oversee employee time and attendance
    • Coach, develop, discipline, and evaluate production workers in accordance with HR policies and applicable federal and state laws

    • Initiate and facilitate interview panels, employee discipline, and performance evaluations.

    • Read and analyze charts, work tickets, production schedules, and reports to determine production requirements and to evaluate current production estimates and outputs.

  • Provide leadership and ensure effective employee relations within the team.

    • Respond to employee needs, production issues, work availability, and other employee issues
    • Model appropriate behavior and lead by example

    • Provide honest, unbiased, and constructive feedback

    • Communicate professionally and effectively

  • Supervise safety activities in the work area and throughout the value stream.

    • Monitor adherence to safety protocols by employees
    • Address safety issues as they occur

    • Assist in training employees

    • Assist employees with minor first aid

    • Fill out incident reports

    • Ensure a clean and organized work environment

    • Identify and implement solutions to potential safety problems

  • Continuous improvement projects and activities.

    • Support implementation of new equipment, procedures and processes
    • Sustain lean manufacturing tools and systems

    • Own KPI measures and progress in areas of Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost

    • Facilitate solutions of daily production issues

QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma, GED or minimum 6 months related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience

Competencies

  • Communication Proficiency

    • Excellent English language written and oral communication skills
    • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business documents including safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals and barcode labels.

    • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Technical Capacity

    • Ability to apply concepts of basic mathematics
    • Ability to use and read measuring instruments

  • Problem Solving/Analysis

    • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form

The employee will be subject to prolonged standing. The employee must be able to manipulate and assemble small parts.

  • Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to pass respirator fit test and medical evaluation.

  • Weight requirement: The employee must frequently lift and/or move 25 pounds. Occasionally lift and/or move up to 65 pounds, and push/pull up to 70 pounds.
