Job Summary

Food Pantry Assistants must be self-motivated learners, efficient problem solvers and have ability to provide care and supportive services to all students. Food Pantry Assistants help Campus Life and Housing meet its goal of serving students that are food insecure by providing free food, snacks, and personal items.

Reports To

Larissa Bonnet, Director of Housing and Campus Life

Education/Qualifications

  • Good Conduct and Academic Standing with the college
  • Sheridan College Student currently enrolled
  • Cumulative GPA is 2.0 or greater

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to work well with others as part of a collaborative team.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Creative, with the ability to propose and initiate new ideas.
  • Ability to accept critical feedback and integrate suggestions into ideas.
  • Ability to prioritize activities and manage multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Basic computer skills and a familiarity with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Publisher, and Microsoft Excel.
  • The ability to understand the importance of confidentiality and to serve as a role model for others.
  • Strong interest in helping students connect with the college and enhance their college experience.
  • Awareness of, and appreciation for, individual uniqueness and diversity.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements

  • Ability to resolve conflict situations and make decisions under pressure.

Job Duties

These are the job duties for required of the position.

Responsibility/Duty

  • Know and execute all food handling procedures
  • The general management and duties of the Food Pantry
  • Providing a clean, safe and efficient operation of the Food Pantry
  • Picking up donations from donation bins, and food drives, as needed
  • Maintaining standards of operating procedures
  • Management of documents and paperwork, including food inventory and food log sheets
  • Preparing and submitting daily/weekly reports for guests and supplies necessary for operations
  • Keeping accurate records of the amount of food coming in and out each month
  • Answering questions from customers about campus directions, activities, university services/offices and general university knowledge
  • Providing training to volunteers, ensuring safety, efficiency and effective communication at all times
  • Providing timely communication to coworkers, supervisors and clients
  • Additional projects assigned by the supervisor
