SummaryThis position is a hybrid role that is split into two domains: (1) teaching PE, and (2) teaching specials course such as music, creative arts, gardening, etc. to elementary students K-6.PE Teacher ResponsibilitiesProvides engaging, fun, and effective instruction that helps build a health and wellness foundation for students.Analyzes, demonstrates and explains basic skills, knowledge and strategies of games, rhythms and fundamentals of body movement.Discovers and cultivates the talents of students in physical achievement.Develops strength, skill, agility, poise, and coordination in individual, dual and team physical activities and sports.Provides appropriate safety instruction, and makes safety checks on equipment and gym/field areas to ensure the overall safety of students.Teaches knowledge and skills in physical fitness using the Oregon Core Standards.Specials Teacher ResponsibilitiesTeaches music, art, gardening or other creative classes to elementary students, based on student/parent interest and your personal expertise.Demonstrates the ability to adapt creative classes and/or content as student/parent interests adjust.Provides a variety of materials and resources for children to explore, manipulate, and use, both in learning activities and in imaginative play.Organizes and leads activities designed to promote physical, mental, and social development, such as games, arts and crafts, music, and storytelling.Teaches knowledge and skills in creative arts using the Oregon Core Standards.General ResponsibilitiesDemonstrates motivation and enthusiasm with a genuine passion for teaching all learners.Demonstrates the ability to create a student-centered classroom.Facilitates student's physical, cognitive and social and emotional learning through lessons designed to sequentially develop skills appropriate to their ability and confidence levels.Establishes and enforces rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order among students.Implements Oregon Core Standards with rigor, purpose, and planning.Provides maximum participation for all students; differentiates learning as needed to ensure all students experience success.Develops engaging and effective lesson plans and supplementary materials.Provides ongoing formative feedback to students.Evaluates academic and social growth of students and keeps appropriate records to include report cards, attendance records, and other recordkeeping activities.Communicates with parents, school counselors and administrators on student progress.Plans and supervises class projects, field trips, visits by guest speakers, or other experiential activities, and guide students in learning from those activities.Attends professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops to maintain and improve professional competence.Performs additional duties as assigned.
