Position Summary
The Human Resources (HR) Manager oversees all aspects of human resources for a large wholesale nursery operation. This position is responsible for recruiting and retaining qualified employees for all departments, ensuring compliance with employment laws, maintaining accurate employee records, and promoting clear communication across all company levels. The HR Manager plays a vital role in supporting company culture, safety, and performance standards across all nursery locations.
Key Responsibilities Recruitment & Staffing
Manage full-cycle recruiting for all nursery positions, including production, sales, delivery, office, and management roles.
Partner with department managers to identify workforce needs and design effective recruitment strategies.
Write and post job descriptions, screen applicants, conduct interviews, and manage onboarding and orientation.
Maintain relationships with employment agencies, schools, and industry groups to attract qualified candidates.
Coordinate seasonal and temporary staffing as required by production schedules.
Employee Relations & Communication
Serve as the main point of contact for employee questions, concerns, and company communications.
Foster open, professional, and respectful communication across all departments.
Conduct employee meetings and engagement initiatives to strengthen company culture and retention.
Address and assist in resolving employee conflicts, performance issues, and disciplinary actions.
Maintain professionalism and confidentiality in all HR matters.
Communicate effectively in both English and Spanish to ensure understanding among all employees.
Compliance, Attendance & Recordkeeping
Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local employment regulations, including OSHA, BOLI, EEOC, I-9, and wage and hour laws.
Maintain accurate employee records for attendance, holidays, and days worked.
Document and enforce policies related to tardiness and dependability.
Oversee timekeeping, payroll documentation, and personnel files.
Maintain required postings and compliance records for audits.
Training, Safety & Development
Coordinate ongoing employee safety meetings and ensure compliance with Oregon OSHA requirements.
Track attendance and training completion for all safety programs.
Support supervisors in enforcing safe work practices and PPE compliance.
Conduct new-hire orientation and continuing education for employees.
Assist management in leadership and compliance training.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field (or equivalent experience).
Minimum 3–5 years of HR management or generalist experience, ideally in agriculture, nursery, or manufacturing.
Bilingual in English and Spanish (required).
Strong understanding of Oregon labor laws and employment compliance requirements.
Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Proven ability to maintain accurate records and enforce dependability policies fairly.
Proficiency with HR software, Microsoft Office, and timekeeping systems.
Compensation & Benefits (Oregon Standards)
Salary Range: $70,000 – $85,000 annually (depending on experience).
