The plant technician will be responsible for:
PLANT CARE including:
Watering
Pruning
IPM spray applications
Soil mixing and amending
Fertility management and planning
Transplanting
Tissue Sampling and analysis of results
Pest and Disease Identification and mitigation
Clean up, organization, etc.
SEED/POLLEN PRODUCTION including:
Pollen management, collection, proper storage, and record keeping
Conversion spray calculations and application
Vegetative and flowering timing
Seed collection and processing
Cleaning and counting/weighing, storage, etc.
Phenotype scouting
Data Collection and organization
PROPAGATION including:
Taking plant cuttings
Cleaning
Rooting
Daily care
Transplanting
TRANSPLANT and FIELD PRODUCTION including:
Seed sowing
Seedling care and management
Germination Count and record keeping
Quality control and assuring proper planting of multiple strains
Field scouting, data collection, data entry
Issue identification and solutions
Male plant identification and culling
Potency sampling
FACILITY and MAINTENANCE including:
Greenhouse/Hoop house and equipment maintenance and repair
Inspect water lines, plastic film, light deprivation material, fans, dehumidifiers, heaters, and cool cells; Report issues to management
Equipment operations
Routine cleaning and disinfecting of hand tools, greenhouses, and grow rooms
Pot and tray washing, and organizing
PLANNING and DEVELOPMENT including:
Create, maintain, and follow SOPs for all responsibilities listed above
Organize and maintain all relevant documents into drive folder as instructed by management
Weekly note taking on plant research and development using FarmQA
Weigh in on proposed action items and plans
Execute plans as designed, adjusting as needed, and providing regular updates on actions
Organizing and coordinating additional labor when needed
Conducting trials to further improve practices
REQUIREMENTS and SKILLS:
Bachelor’s degree in any field and at least 1 year of professional work experience in a plant-related position OR 2+ years of experience in a production greenhouse environment.
Understanding of plant sensory systems, general plant care, pest identification, and basic botany and horticultural practices are desirable.
Must be able to withstand conditions of high heat and humidity, long hours of sun exposure, and freezing temperatures as needed through the winter.
Will be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) to complete a number of regular tasks. Ability to listen to verbal instruction and execute independently without supervision, and maintain a strong attention to detail.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.
