The Removal Technician and Crematory Operator is responsible for the dignified handling and care of deceased individuals during transport and cremation. This role requires a compassionate demeanor, attention to detail, adherence to safety protocols, and compliance with all regulatory requirements. The individual will work closely with funeral directors, families, and coworkers to ensure smooth operations and provide respectful service.
There are two positions available: one is full-time and one is part-time.
Key Responsibilities:
Removal Technician Duties:
o Transporting Deceased Individuals:
Respond promptly to calls to transport deceased individuals from homes, hospitals, hospices, or other facilities to the funeral home or crematory.
Ensure safe and dignified handling of the deceased during removal.
o Communication and Documentation:
Communicate professionally with families, caregivers, and facility staff.
Complete required paperwork accurately, including chain-of-custody forms and death certificates.
o Vehicle Maintenance:
Maintain cleanliness, sanitation, and readiness of the removal vehicle.
Conduct routine inspections to ensure the vehicle is in proper working condition.
Crematory Operator Duties:
o Cremation Process:
Operate cremation equipment following manufacturer guidelines and legal regulations.
Maintain proper records, including tracking and verifying remains during the cremation process.
o Maintenance and Safety:
Perform routine maintenance on cremation equipment and ensure the facility is clean and organized.
Adhere to health, safety, and environmental standards to minimize risks.
o Customer Service:
Interact compassionately with families when necessary, ensuring their needs are respected and questions answered.
o Compliance and Reporting:
Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal laws, including EPA, DEQ, and OSHA regulations.
Prepare detailed reports on cremations and maintenance activities.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
o High school diploma or equivalent required.
o Experience in funeral services, removals, or crematory operations is a plus.
o Crematory Operator Certification (or willingness to obtain).
Skills and Abilities:
o Strong attention to detail and ability to follow precise protocols.
o Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
o Ability to handle physical labor, including lifting up to 150 lbs with assistance.
Licenses and Certifications:
o Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
o Certification in bloodborne pathogens or infection control is an asset.
Working Conditions:
May require working irregular hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Exposure to physical and emotional stress related to handling deceased individuals and grieving families.
