CLASSIFICATION TITLE OF THE JOB: Seasonal Ranger
CLASSIFICATION CATEGORY: Seasonal Temporary, Non-Benefited Position working up to 40 hours per week.
DEPARTMENT: Linn County Parks and Recreation
LOCATIONS: Big Lake located in the Willamette National Forest, off the Santiam Pass, on the historic Santiam Wagon Road.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB: (Depending on assigned Park location, you may be required to perform any or all of these essential job functions):
Patrol parks on foot or by vehicle; assist with code compliance; must be able to assess and resolve complaints appropriately.
Collect camping and day use fees; maintain proper logbooks.
Prepare reports and provide public information to park visitors.
Must provide excellent customer service to park patrons; must be friendly, conscientious and responsible.
Must be able to effectively communicate with management, park rangers, co-workers and visitors.
Cleaning of park grounds; pruning shrubs and trees.
Perform general lawn maintenance using mowers, tractors and attachments.
Cleaning and stocking of restrooms and picnic facilities; garbage removal.
Ensure the cleanliness and sanitization of cabins and yurts to a high standard set by the department.
Repair vandalized park facilities; assist with general construction maintenance projects and general carpentry.
Maintain regular and predictable work attendance; be proactive; self-starter.
Other duties as assigned to accomplish department needs.
JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES:
Ability to learn park rules, area information, and educate park visitors.
Ability to follow directions, manage multiple tasks to parks standards and complete tasks in a timely manner.
Ability to operate a variety of hand tools, power tools, and small equipment.
Ability to perform general maintenance to park buildings and facilities; perform janitorial services, including the use of chemicals.
Ability to work in all weather conditions.
Must be available to work Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays; work shifts, assignments and locations may vary.
Position requires frequent standing, walking, squatting, bending, kneeling, twisting, and repetitive forward and overhead reaching.
Ability to lift/carry 50lbs. and push objects weighing up to 90lbs; ability to perform physical labor for extended periods of time.
Must have, or be willing to obtain, a First Aid/AED Card.
QUALIFICATIONS: Must be a graduate from a senior high school or have your GED; possess a valid Oregon Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record and pass a criminal background check. Must be at least 18 years old at the time of hire.
Must live on site; maintain a tidy, free of clutter, campsite; must have a self-contained recreational vehicle; approved RV must be fully operational, clean in appearance, well maintained and in good working condition. Water and septic are provided; however, you will need to provide your own generator or solar for electricity.
Personal property shall be covered by your own insurance; Linn County will not, and cannot, replace any lost, stolen or damaged property. RV must be insured and licensed with current tags.
SALARY, BENEFITS, COMPENSATION: This is a Seasonal Temporary, Non-Benefited Position; $18.50 per hour.
