LOCATION: This position will report to the Waterloo Shop located in Lebanon, Oregon

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB: A person employed in this classification must possess the capability to perform the following duties to be considered for this position. The duties are essential functions requiring the critical skills and expertise needed to meet job objectives.

Manages operations of County parks and recreation facilities; collects overnight and day-use fees; patrols facilities on foot or by vehicle; provides information to the public pertaining to park use, safety requirements, rules and regulations, etc.; Keep daily records of work performed; log gas and diesel use; purchase materials and supplies consistent with department policy.

Perform general park maintenance including cleaning park grounds; picking up litter; cleaning and restocking restroom facilities; collecting and depositing garbage into receptacles; removing leaves; applying herbicides and pesticides; mowing lawn areas; trimming shrubs and trees; repairing mowers, tractors and attachments; repairing vandalized park facilities; operating, maintaining and repairing wastewater treatment and portable water systems.

Work with and supervise work activities of temporary seasonal employees; assign duties and evaluate work results.

Construct park and museum buildings, trails, picnic tables, benches, footbridges, fire pits and signs; develop landscapes; install restroom fixtures, lights, etc.

During the summer recreation season, employee will be required to work a flexible schedule, including weekends with two mid-week days off. Employee will be required to work on three holidays (Memorial Day, Fourth of July, and Labor Day).

Develop and maintain effective, harmonious and reasonable work relationships with others.

Maintain regular and predictable work attendance.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY:

Considerable knowledge of the rules and regulations governing park activities.

Ability to enforce park rules and regulations, County Code and document enforcement actions.

Knowledge of safety and health regulations relating to park operations.

Considerable knowledge of park operations including sewer, water and electrical systems and emergency controls.

Ability to follow directions, manage multiple tasks to parks standards and complete tasks in a timely manner.

Ability to communicate effectively and resolve conflicts.

Ability to organize and schedule tasks; ability to work independently.

Considerable knowledge of the materials, tools and equipment used in park maintenance and construction.

Ability to operate a variety of hand tools, power tools, and small equipment.

Ability to perform general maintenance to park buildings and facilities; perform janitorial services, including the use of chemicals.

Ability to perform construction trades, i.e. masonry, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, welding and painting.

Ability to work in all weather conditions.

Position requires frequent standing, walking, squatting, bending, kneeling, twisting, and repetitive forward and overhead reaching. Ability to lift/carry 50lbs. and push objects weighing up to 90 pounds; ability to perform physical labor for extended periods of time.

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: Two years of experience in parks and/or resort operations, construction and/or maintenance, preferably with one year of experience in park/resort maintenance and/or construction. Graduation from high school or possession of the equivalent GED Certificate; or any satisfactory equivalent combination of experience and training which demonstrates the ability to perform the work described.

NECESSARY SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS: Must pass a criminal background check. Must have a valid Oregon Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record. Must be at least 18 years old at the time of hire. Must have, or be willing to obtain, a First Aid/AED Card.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work is generally performed outdoors in all types of weather and in all Linn County Park locations. Work requirements include being able to see, talk, hear, sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop and kneel. The ability to use hands to finger, handle or operate objects, tools or controls, to reach with hands and arms and to lift or move ninety (90) pounds is also required; ability to perform physical labor for extended periods of time.

COMPENSATION: $25.75 per hour. This is a non-benefited temporary position of up to 6 months or 600 hours.
